This Privacy Policy governs the data collection, handling, and privacy practices for the Android application Lokaal Weer (the “Application”).

The Application provides localized weather forecasts, real-time rain alerts, responsive homescreen widgets, and customizable visual themes for users in the Netherlands and worldwide.

1. Our Privacy-First Philosophy

Lokaal Weer is designed with a strict privacy-first approach.

• No User Accounts: There is no registration, login, or account creation process.
• No External Developer Tracking: We do not track user behavior, and we do not host any remote databases.
• No Selling of Personal Data: Since we do not collect your personal details, your data is never compiled, shared, or sold to third-party advertising networks.

2. Location Data Handling

To provide real-time weather metrics, localized notifications, and accurate widget updates, the Application requires access to your device’s geographical location.

Precise Location (GPS and network-based)

The Application reads your device’s precise coordinates to fetch exact, hyper-local meteorological metrics from our trusted weather API layers.

Background Location Access

To power the periodic rain check background features and homescreen widget updates while the app is closed or in the background, the Application requires background location permissions.

• This check runs locally on your device via Android’s native WorkManager API (typically executing every 15 to 30 minutes).
• This background check evaluates whether rain coordinates are moving toward your location to trigger a notification.

🔒 Privacy Guarantee: Your coordinates are processed instantaneously and locally on your phone. They are never saved, stored on an external server, or transmitted to the developer.

3. Local Storage and Data Retention

All custom application states, configurations, and weather caches are saved exclusively on your device using Android’s native storage mechanisms (SharedPreferences / DataStore).

• This data remains on your physical device at all times.
• Uninstalling the Application or clearing the Application’s cache instantly and permanently deletes all stored preferences, coordinate keys, and weather state caches.

4. Third-Party Services & Data Transmission

To fetch the weather, the Application transmits stateless location coordinates (Latitude and Longitude) to verified meteorological APIs. These API queries do not contain any personally identifiable markers (such as your name, device identifier, IP address history, or account details).

By using Lokaal Weer, you interact with the following third-party data processors:

5. Required Device Permissions

The Application requests the following system permissions, which you can grant, deny, or revoke at any time via your device’s Android System Settings:

1. ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION & ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: Used to fetch weather metrics for your physical location.
2. ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION: Allows the background worker to safely check local coordinates for rain notifications when the device is asleep or the app is closed.
3. POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+): Permits the system to deliver the daily weather summary at 9:00 PM and real-time precipitation alerts.

6. Children’s Privacy

The Application does not solicit, gather, or compile data from children under the age of 13. Since no user data is sent to the developer or stored on remote databases, the Application remains safe and secure for all users.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to align with Android system upgrades or changes to our meteorological data pipelines. Any structural changes are immediately active upon being published inside updated releases or linked store configurations.
